Writing Skills for Multiple Choice Test

The skills for the Writing Test are organized under five major categories:

  • Identifying errors in grammatical structure and logical relationships involving nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs

  • Identifying errors in grammatical structure and logical relationships involving coordination, subordination, parallelism, correlation, negation, and comparison

  • Identifying errors in idiom and word choice

  • Identifying significant errors in punctuation and capitalization (mechanics)

  • Identifying sentences that meet conventions of standard written English

Examples of the skills in these five categories are shown and described in this section. After that four sample tests afford ample opportunities to practice these skills in circumstances similar to the actual tests.
