Introduction to the General Knowledge Test

The General Knowledge Test (GKT) is an achievement test that measures selected communication and mathematics skills. In states like Florida, this examination is required for anyone seeking a teaching certificate. This online program is designed to meet the needs of any student who is preparing for a standardized test at the college level.

The GKT measures the communication and computation skills that college students should have acquired by the end of their sophomore year. Students are challenged by tests in reading, writing, essay writing, and mathematics. The objectives for all tests were established by subject area specialists using a process that included extensive literature review, interviews with public school teachers, a large-scale survey of teachers, and pilot tests.

The purpose of this online program is to help students prepare successfully for similar tests. Prospective test takers will find that this program was developed to closely simulate the actual content and format of the tests to be taken. Although this program is complete in terms of test preparation, clearly there is a need for prior completion of college course work. With that background, a student can confidently use this program as valuable preparation for taking any similar standardized examination.
