Suggestions For Improving Your Internal Motivation

Here are some helpful methods and suggestions for you to generate and maintain internal motivation. This can improve your general motivation to succeed in college:

  • Think about what type of motivation you are creating for yourself through your goals.
  • Think about the relationship between external and internal motivation and your commitment to specific goals.
  • Goals that foster external motivation are more difficult to maintain. Nevertheless, they are often necessary in order to create some sufficient motivation to complete an academic task.
  • Try to create goals that you find internally rewarding.

Remember to always think about your beliefs and motivation in relation to your goals. If you are having problems with your motivation, look at your goals and think about some of the factors that we have talked about in each of these sections.
