Goals

Because research shows that your goals are a key factor in motivation, if not  the key factor, we are going to focus on goals in this section. The following screens contain a discussion of what goals are and some activities to help you set, analyze, and use your goals to help you succeed in college.

Goals are keys to creating your motivation. The goals that you set for yourself must be based on YOUR values and YOUR beliefs. No one can give you goals. Others can suggest goals for you but you must 'own' them for goals to be useful. You must decide what YOU want to strive for and achieve.

Once you have determined your goals, it is much easier to find the motivation to achieve them. Take some time to think about what possibilities you see for yourself and how you can achieve your goals. Having a clear direction and picture of what you plan to do is extremely important for maintaining your motivation. This is especially true in situations where you find it difficult to be highly motivated.
